2-1-1 is a social service referral hotline offered through the United Way. It provides free and confidential information and referral. The Elkhart County Women's Shelter is the only domestic violence shelter in Elkhart County. The Elkhart County Women's Shelter provides a safe and secure environment for women and children of domestic violence. The shelter also provides assistance with obtaining housing, protective orders, job search, counseling, and child care. In order to be eligible to stay at the shelter a client must be: a victim of domestic violence or homeless, at least 18 years of age or emancipated, a non-sex offender and mentally and physically able.
